VERNON DAVIS: Where Art Thou?

VERNON is out for a few weeks.

I mean, it's cool. Right? It's not like he was our only effective offensive weapon yesterday. That would totally invalidate all of Joe Nedney's hard work.

For use to get some wins in the next month (I think we need to take 3 out of 4), it is painfully obvious somebody is going to need to step up. Here are list of potential candidates:

#11
He can no longer just manage a game and limit mistakes. He needs to start making plays. I think it starts with his feet, not his arm. Lets let him loose and run some more, he certainly was successful with that in Utah. Has Tebow declared his eligibility yet?

#21
I don’t think there is much more Frank can do. Teams are stacking 8 and 9 in the box, our playcalling is un-imaginative and the o-line isn’t making any holes. Which brings us to…

#75, #71, #66, #68, #74
In today’s NFL you need three things to win
1. A smart QB
2. Speed on defense
3. A dominant OL
Its time for these guys to step up. The pieces are there, they just don’t seem to be gelling (anybody know what Jonas and Lallen were fighting about in Pitt?). Unfortunately, Olines don’t tend to come together mid-season. My suggestion: A locker room brawl between #75 and #71. It would be like two walruses fighting.

#82, #83, #88, #89?
Its obvious Lelie isn’t getting many more looks after that disaster on Sunday, which is too bad because I think he could have been a playmaker. I hope we can work Jason Hill into the lineup. Was TO really the last good WR we have drafted? That was over 10 years ago! Somebody needs to turn into Steve Smith, or Roy Williams, or Andre Johnson and start stretching the God Damn field.

The Entire Defense (#95, #56)
After games one and two, I likened our team to the 2000 Ravens. Now we are a little closer to the 2006 Bears. If the D can step up and dominate we can run through a ridiculously weak NFC. The real key here is at OLB. Everyone else looks poised to dominate (#52 is just dominating), but we need to the guys outside to step up. TBC hasn’t shown me much, if anything, and the Manny injury was obviously devastating. My vote goes to Bmoore for OLB. He was arguably our best player on the defensive side of the ball last year and that position will be especially important against Baltimore as they will look to Heap 8-12 times.
